They were alien/human hybrids. The were the reincarnate of royalty on their home planet that were killed and then cloned and sent to earth so they could come home and save their planet (which they never do, because they all fall in love with humans and consider Earth their new home). There are a few creepy moments but you never get that “scary alien” feel to the show. If you ever get a chance to watch it, to totally should.
